Hearing Aids

Hearing aid devices are small electronic devices that are worn in or behind the ear to help improve hearing. They amplify sound and make it easier to hear and understand speech and other sounds in the environment. There are different types of hearing aids available, including:

  1. Behind-the-ear (BTE) hearing aids: These are the most common type of hearing aid. They consist of a small plastic case that sits behind the ear and is connected to a plastic earmold or earbud that fits inside the ear canal.
  2. In-the-ear (ITE) hearing aids: These hearing aids are custom-made to fit inside the outer ear. They are larger than other types of hearing aids, but are less visible.
  3. In-the-canal (ITC) hearing aids: These hearing aids are custom-made to fit inside the ear canal. They are smaller and less visible than ITE hearing aids.
  4. Completely-in-canal (CIC) hearing aids: These hearing aids are custom-made to fit deep inside the ear canal. They are the smallest type of hearing aid and are almost invisible.

Hearing aid devices are typically prescribed by an audiologist or ear, nose, and throat doctor after a hearing test has been conducted. The type of hearing aid prescribed will depend on the severity of the hearing loss and the individual’s needs and preferences. Click here to read about how to choose a hearing aid. Some hearing aids also come with additional features such as noise-cancellation, directional microphones, and Bluetooth connectivity. Hearing aids require regular maintenance and adjustments to ensure they are working properly. Click here to read about the probable cost of hearing aids in India.

It is important to use the hearing aid as directed and to have regular follow-up appointments with the prescribing doctor to ensure it is working properly.
